Position: Extended Term Substitute (ETS), Grade 4 Teacher

Available April 2026 through September 2026

Martin Luther King, Jr. School

Martin Luther King, Jr. School Community:

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School (MLK) is an innovative public school where every student learns Mandarin Chinese. The King School provides two options for pursuing Chinese language study. Students may pursue a sequential Two-Way Immersion option focused on the development of biliteracy in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Or, students may choose to balance daily Chinese lessons with other core content. For Grades JK – 2, classrooms follow two learning strands, which merge together for English and Chinese instruction for Grades 3 – 5.

We believe our programs prepare, enrich, and challenge our students for success as global citizens and scholars. Our students benefit from an expanded learning day (8 hours). This provides opportunities for increased enrichment and more time on core subject areas. The extended day offers teachers the flexibility to set the pace and intensity of learning based on student needs and interests. This time also enables us to offer enhanced enrichment that captures students’ curiosity.

The Opportunity:

The King School seeks an experienced 4th-grade teacher to join our caring and innovative community. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks and/or the Common Core. The candidate will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support students. The teacher will have an appreciation and awareness of the unique developmental needs of young people in this age band. As a professional, the teacher will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth, consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of the MLK School, and be fully committed to continually learning, improving, reflecting, and working together as a community to ensure that all students achieve at high levels. Applicants with training in culturally responsive instruction are highly preferred. All candidates must be open to engaging in conversations about the intersection of race and education — critical conversations that ground our improvement efforts.
