Position: Carpenter Senior IV, 2 Positions Available

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities or his/her designee, a successful candidate will perform skilled carpentry work for the construction, maintenance and repair of structures throughout the district. Work is performed in an industrial environment and involves exposure to hazardous chemicals, strong odors, drafts, noise, heat, cold, dust, grease, and dirt with extended periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting light to very heavy objects and equipment, climbing, and working in confined spaces. The work consists primarily of repairs, installations, build outs and other common general maintenance. This position requires a self-starter, energetic individual eager to learn and shift priorities based on departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, repair and install counters, stairs, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim. Install and repair sheetrock, plywood, cove base, wood and metal studs, masonry and concrete surfaces, suspended ceilings and insulation, roof and flashings, caulking, prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, exit devices, closers, kick plates and other building components. Installs new locks, repairs existing locks, modifies locks to the new key system, cut keys, provides input on rekeying of existing buildings and key sequences for new buildings. Reviews drawings and specifications to ensure CPS keying practices are followed.
- Assembles furniture and other items purchased by CPSD. Loads, delivers and unloads items to CPSD schools and other locations.
- Use carpenters and other trades hand and power tools. Maintains tools and equipment in good and safe working order. Perform preventative maintenance on building envelopes and equipment.
- Responsible for work order handling and processing. Verify field/shop measurements, notify supervisors of discrepancies. Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all time. Report any unsafe working conditions or faulty equipment.
- Order material as required by the project and approved by supervisors.
- Occasional work outside the carpentry field is required, such as snow removal, materials transportation, moves, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or the equivalent plus ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience performing carpentry work, and corrective maintenance in an industrial or school setting.
- Must be able to problem solve, work independently and work cooperatively as a team member.
- Ability to use email, work order system, follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must possess Construction Supervisors License and/or other qualifications required to apply for building permits with the City of Cambridge.
- Must have a valid D-class driver’s license.
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
- Ability to read blueprints, sketches, manuals and other instructions.
- Additional carpentry training, certifications and OSHA 10 are a plus.
Salary:
In accordance with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, Council 93, Local 1611 Union Salary Schedule.
