Position:           Extended Term Substitute, Automotive Technology Teacher

                        Rindge School of Technical Arts/Cambridge Rindge & Latin School

 

The Opportunity:

The Teacher for the Automotive Technology Program reports to the Executive Director and the CTE Coordinator. The Automotive Technology Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a Chapter 74-based curriculum to integrate career and technical education for Automotive Technology students in grades 9-12. This curriculum will involve all aspects of the Automotive Technology industry. The Automotive Technology Teacher is responsible for educating Career and Technical Education students in the underlying principles of technology, safety, planning, management, and technical skills as they apply to Automotive Technology. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Automotive Technology Teacher will: 

  • Work independently and with colleagues to teach & maintain a program of study that meets all requirements of Chapter 74 regulations and prepares students for learning all aspects of Automotive Technology; 
  • Perform the duties of a teacher including maintaining attendance, grades, and other duties associated with being a faculty member at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School; 
  • Implement the curriculum to insure that students receive appropriate career and technical education and the opportunities to meet the requirements necessary for further their education and to qualify for employment opportunities in the Automotive Technology industry; 
  • Teach effectively and efficiently a diverse student population, including some students with limited proficiency in English and students with disabilities; 
  • Plan and implement appropriate upgrades to Automotive Technology equipment to reflect industry trends and standards; 
  • Maintain all Automotive Technology equipment in good working order; 
  • Plan for, procure, & maintain appropriate levels of supplies to meet instructional & production demands of the program; 
  • Insure instruction in and compliance with all health and safety regulations; 
  • Establish and meet business objectives for an ongoing business enterprise in the Automotive Technology program; 
  • Work effectively with an active Program Advisory Committee that meets a minimum of twice annually;
  • Teach OSHA 10-hour course
  • Perform all other essential duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Automotive Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Clear understanding of G.L. Chapter 74 regulations;
  • Thorough knowledge of how to teach the competencies and standards of the Automotive Technology Frameworks;
  • Five (5) years full-time employment experience directly related to Automotive Technology;
  • Successful experience with and/or a strong commitment to Cultural Proficiency and the success of all students in a diverse urban population;
  • Demonstrated capacity to modify instruction to help meet the needs of all students enrolled in Automotive Technology, experience and demonstrated competence in all aspects of the Automotive Technology industry;
  • Experience in training students for eligibility for the OSHA 10-hour card;
  • Current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in at least three areas of automotive technology;
  • Preferred MA DESE CVTE License: Automotive Technology Teacher, or be eligible for it.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
