Position:           Extended Term Substitute, Health Assisting Teacher

                        Available September 1, 2024 through no later than June 30, 2025

                        Rindge School of Technical Arts

 

The Opportunity:         
The Health Assisting Teacher reports to, and is supervised by, the Executive Director for Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA). This is a long-term substitute teaching position working with a diverse student population in an urban setting. The Health Assisting Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction and assessment within a Chapter 74-approved curriculum that integrates career/vocational/technical and academic education for Health Assisting students in Grades 9-12. This curriculum will involve all aspects of the Health Assisting industry, including financial, environmental, health & safety, hands-on instruction, and the role of Health Assisting professional within the industry. The Health Assisting Teacher is responsible for educating students in the underlying principles of safety in the workplace, employability skills, the technical competencies as detailed in the MA DESE Frameworks, and all aspects of the healthcare industry. The Health Assisting Teacher will also educate students in concepts of the business enterprise part of the program.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate professionally with other members of the Health Assisting staff, the school administration, and local health care providers;
  • Teach assigned students in all aspects of the Health Assisting industry;
  • Implement the Chapter 74 curriculum to ensure that students receive appropriate career/ vocational/technical and academic instruction and experience to meet educational requirements to qualify for further Career and Technical Education, and to qualify for employment opportunities in the healthcare industry;
  • Work effectively with a diverse student population, including some students with limited proficiency in English;
  • Plan and implement appropriate upgrades to hospital and health care facilities equipment to reflect industry standards & directions;
  • Maintain all Health Assisting equipment in good working order;
  • Plan for, procure and maintain appropriate supply levels to meet demonstration & use demands of the program;
  • Ensure instruction in compliance with all health and safety regulations;
  • Establish and meet business objectives for an ongoing business enterprise
  • Maintain & participate in an active Program Advisory Committee that meets a minimum of twice annually,
  • Maintain a program of study for Health Assisting that meets all requirements of Chapter 74 law;
  • Perform all other duties or assignments by the Executive Director.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming substitute Social Studies Teacher you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Experience in the Health Assisting industry and /or career/vocational/technical instruction preferred;
  • Familiarity with all aspects of Health Assisting, including management, experience in training workers in basic vocational skills, experience in the hands-on technical aspects of Health Assisting is highly desirable;
  • Possess a clear understanding of G.L. Chapter 74 Regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Possess or be eligible for a Massachusetts Teacher’s License, Division of Career Vocational Technical Education as a Health Assisting Teacher preferred.
