Position:               Instructional Aide (6.5 hours/10 months), Grade 5

                            Kennedy-Longfellow School

 

Duties:

The instructional aide will work closely with the classroom teacher to provide a nurturing environment that respects and honors the individual needs of all children, while also challenging them to meet high academic standards.  In conjunction with the classroom teacher, the instructional aide will be expected to plan for and teach small and large groups; assist in developing units of study with the assistance of the teacher, keep track of student progress through assessment and record-keeping systems; and along with the classroom teacher occasionally participate in parent conferences. Other duties include conducting lunch and recess activities; accompanying children to specialists; accompanying children on field trips; duplicating materials; operating audio-visual equipment; managing the whole class while the teacher attends a meeting; and performing other tasks requested by the teacher or school administration.

 

Toileting of students is a duty that an individual may be expected and required to perform as a paraprofessional employed by the Cambridge Public Schools.

 

Minimum Requirements:          

Associates degree, or 48 college credits. Previous experiences working with elementary students in an urban, multicultural setting preferred; respect for differences in experiences and the development of children; ability to work with children in both small and large groups in activity-based classroom settings.
