Position:                       Instructional Aide, Student Support (6.5 hours per day/10 months)

                                    Putnam Avenue Upper School

 

The Putnam Avenue Upper School serves students in grades 6-8. Upper School students are provided with learning experiences that are developmentally responsive, challenging, inclusive, and supportive. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Student Support Aide (SSA) works under the direction of the principal and assistant principal.
  • The SSA assists with the monitoring of students during lunch, recess, general hallway transition, arrival and dismissal and performs other duties as assigned by the administrative team.
  • Works collaboratively with administration/school faculty to support students in positive academic and social engagement (e.g., peer mediation, collaborative facilitation of social groups, targeted classroom support, etc.).   • Assist Principal/Assistant Principal with screening classroom incidents and office referrals.
  • Works collaboratively with administration/school faculty to assist with school/family activities (e.g. Back to School Night, Curriculum Nights, Learning Partner Conferences, etc.).
  • Works with administration/faculty/families to support school-family partnership, with particular focus on increasing equity of access (e.g. assisting in setting up conferences, translation services, completing paperwork). Supports the production of publications (e.g., newsletters, bulletins, calendars, etc.) to provide information regarding school events to families.
  • Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned for the purpose of assisting others and assisting in the completion of program activities.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Student Support Instructional Aide, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, or 48 college credits.
  • Previous coursework in the education of middle-grade children preferred.
  • Previous successful school experience with students and families in an urban, multicultural setting, preferably at the middle-grade level.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect diversity and help children develop a positive self-image as successful learners, particularly those who have struggled academically.
